Sobo SB-533 Aquarium Sponge Filter – Advanced Airlift Bio-Filter with Ceramic Media Chamber
Elevate your aquarium's water quality with the Sobo SB-533 Aquarium Sponge Filter. Moving far beyond standard foam filters, the SB-533 features an innovative enclosed acrylic design that combines powerful mechanical filtration with a dedicated biological media chamber.
Powered by a gentle "airlift system," this filter provides excellent water purification while simultaneously "oxyagenating the water". It is the perfect, safe solution for delicate setups like shrimp tanks, fry/breeding tanks, Betta enclosures, or as a highly effective secondary filter in larger community aquariums. Because the foam is housed inside a cylinder, it eliminates "deads spots in cylinder foam," forcing water evenly through the media for maximum efficiency.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Dual-Stage Filtration: Combines a dense black "Filter cotton" sponge to trap floating debris (mechanical filtration) with a bottom chamber packed with "Biological beads" to house beneficial bacteria (biological filtration).
-
Superior Toxin Removal: The specialized foam and ceramic beads support massive "colonization of bacteria," effectively breaking down "harmful waste, ammonia and nitrite material" to create a pristine living environment for your fish.
-
Ultra-Quiet Operation: Features an integrated internal "Air stone" that breaks air bubbles down into a fine mist, which significantly "reduces noise from air pump" and ensures a whisper-quiet tank.
-
Modular & Easy to Clean: The "nodular design" allows you to easily unscrew the casing to rinse the sponge or replace the biological beads without replacing the entire unit.
-
Weighted Base: Designed with a heavy "Base" to keep the filter firmly planted on the bottom of your aquarium, preventing it from floating around like cheaper sponge filters.
How It Works
-
Connect an airline tube from your external air pump to the "Tracheal joint" on the side of the filter.
-
Air travels down and is dispersed by the internal "Air stone".
-
As the air bubbles rise up the central lift tube, they create a vacuum that pulls dirty tank water through the outer "Filter cotton" and over the "Biological beads".
-
Clean, highly oxygenated water is expelled back into the tank through the top nozzle.

Maintenance Tips
To keep your biological colony alive, never wash the "Filter cotton" or "Biological beads" under unchlorinated tap water. Always gently squeeze the sponge out in a bucket of old aquarium water during your routine water changes.
