How many fishes can be in Fish tank

How many fishes can be in Fish tank?

A lot of my friends ask me this question. It is difficult to give a concise answer to this question. Only after looking at a lot of factors like what kind of fish do you intend to raise in the pond and what kind of fish farming method is being followed etc. one can answer this question. The subject How many fishes can be in Fish tank  is a bit vast. The video is likely to be a bit longer. Definitely try to watch the video till the end.

How many fishes can be in Fish tank is an important doubts for all the Fish farmers.

To understand this subject in a simpler way, let us see how many fish can be grown in 1000 liters of water.

In the next three videos, we will discuss the following 7 important points. These are things that fish farmers or those who intend to raise fish need to understand.

  1. How do you know how many liters of water will your tank will hold? Whether it is a circular round tank or a rectangular tank.

  2. Different varieties of fishes exist. Only by understanding each species of fish can it be possible to understand the number of different fish that can be raised in each farming system.

  3. Whether there is any difficulty in rearing different species of fishes together?

  4. How many fishes can be raised in a natural pond?

  5. How many fishes can be raised in a cement tank or a Nylon pond?

  6. How many fishes can be raised in an Aquaponics farming method?

  7. How many fish can be reared in Biofloc fish farming method?

Let us now look at the all of them one by one.

How much water can be fill in a rectangular tank

For this, the length, width and depth of the tank should be measured.

For example, if the length of a tank is one meter, the width is one meter and the depth is one meter, then how much water can be filled in this tank?

Length x width x depth x 1000 = 1000 liters of water. That means there is one cubic meter of water.

Let’s look at another example.

The length of the pond is 4 m, width is 2 m and the depth is 1 m, then how much water can be filled in this pond, 4x2x1x1000 = 8000 liters of water. That is, 8 cubic meters of water. We suppose  there is no doubt about calculating this.

How to measure the amount of water in a round shaped tank

Next we will look at how to measure the amount of water in a round shaped tank. Nowadays a lot of people use round shaped tanks for Biofloc fish farming. Many people are skeptical about how many liters of water it contains.

This is the formula used to determine how much water can be filled in a round shaped tank

πR 2H

This is a formula that everyone is familiar with. Of these, the value of π is 3.14.

R is the radius of the round-shaped tank. Radius is the length from the center of the tank to its rim.

H is the depth or height of the tank.

Let’s look at an example

Let’s see how much water can filled in a round tank with a diameter of five meters and a depth of one meter.

The formula πR2H can be used.

The radius of a pool of five diameters is 2.5 m. If so

3.14 x 2.5×2.5x1x1000 = 19625 liters of water can be filled in the tank. Or 19.6 cubic meters of water.

Using this formula it is very simple for anyone to calculate the amount of water that can be contained in a round shaped tank. As we discuss this topic here, it is essential that everyone understands how much water they can fill  in their pool. That ‘s why it’s important to measure the amount of water which can be filled in a  square shaped tank as well as a round tank.

Different varieties of  Fresh Water fishes which are usually cultivated.

Let’s take a look at the different varieties of  fishes which are usually cultivated. These are the fish that are usually reared in our country. They are variety of species from Tilapia, nutter (Red bellied Pacu), Pangasius, Anabas, carp, Pearl spot fish and carp. These are only few of the fishes which are cultivated. In addition, there are breeders who rear various other species of fish as well.

Now these fishes can be further divided into three categories.

Of these, the Pangasius (vaala), Anabas and Cat fish (Mushi) are the fishes that can come up on to the surface of water and receive oxygen from the atmosphere directly. Therefore, even if the amount of dissolved oxygen (DO) in the water is very low, it will live survive.

Similarly, fishes such as Tilapia and Nutter occasionally come up to the surface of water to breathe when the oxygen level in the water is very low. However, these fishes cannot breath from the air directly as Pangasius, anabus and so it is necessary to provide accurate aeration for them.

Third, fishes such Pearl spot (Karimeen) and Carp receive oxygen only from water. Therefore, it is imperative that the fish have enough oxygen in the water.

This categorization of fishes into three groups is done only to determine how much oxygen each species of fish require. This should be understood to determine how many fish can be raised in each farming method.

There is any difficulty in rearing different species of fishes culture together?

The third point is whether there is any difficulty in raising different species of fish together.

There are people who grow Tilapia, Anabas and Pangasius together. I have never seen anything particularly difficult with raising these fishes together. There is also another benefit to doing so. Tilapia and Vaala are fishes that come to the surface and feed. But Anabas is a fish that feeds from the bottom of the pond. Therefore, it helps to keep the pond clean by removing fish feed waste that gets accumulated in the bottom of the pond.

Similarly, carp fishes like katla, rohu, mrigal  can be reared together. All of them grow in different layers of the pond so that they can get enough feed and also makes good use of the space in the pond.

But it is better not to raise the nutter fish with other fishes. Because they have a habit of attacking other species of fish, they are often at risk of injury or death.

Although it is possible to grow different species of fish together. It is always best to keep only one species of fish in a fish pond. This is  better since they can feed evenly, can get the right amount of feed,  they can grow uniformly, and also it’s easier to harvest them together. Many farmers keep different species of fish together as it is difficult to sell only one species of fish.

There is still a lot more to explain on this topic.  The subject How many fishes can be in Fish tank is already got too lengthy. So remaining  things will be explained in the next video. Through these  videos we try to answer a lot of questions asked by dear friends through WhatsApp and the comments below the video. Therefore, you should definitely share  your doubts and comments about fish farming in the comments section. It will also benefit other farmers.
